After a full day off on Wednesday, the Leafs were back on the ice joined by Colby Armstrong and Clarke MacArthur who will both be in the lineup Friday in Washington.

Armstrong has missed the last 23 games with a high ankle sprain that has finally healed. MacArthur missed the game against the New Jersey with an upper body injury but he has also been cleared to play.

Although only in his second season with the Leafs, the teams record with Armstrong in the lineup is an impressive 29-17-7.

With Armstrong coming off IR, the Leafs had to make a roster move and following practice Joe Colborne was assigned to the Toronto Marlies. In nine games with the big club, Colborne had one goal, four points and was a plus one.

The Maple Leafs head back out on the road this weekend to Boston and New York and their fathers are joining them for the annual Father/Son trip.

“It’s always fun to have your Dad here for the two games to Boston and New York, it’s great,” Carl Gunnarsson told Leafs TV.

Many of the Dads were in attendance at Friday’s practice watching their sons go through their paces by head coach Ron Wilson.

“The guys will want to play hard in front of their Dads I would think,” Wilson said.

The biggest news items from Wilson’s news conference after practice was that goaltender James Reimer has been cleared to play and he will be the backup Saturday in Boston.

For the second straight month, a Maple Leaf has been named one of the NHL's Three Stars. Joffrey Lupul was the third star for November after recording 19 points (six goals, 13 assists) in 14 games. The Leafs winger had at least one point in 12 of the 14 games in November.

Lupul is second in the NHL in scoring with 30 points, two behind teammate Phil Kessel for the NHL lead. He also sits seventh in goals (12) and third in assists (18).

His month started with a hat trick against the Devils on November 2 and culminated with a seven-game point-scoring streak to end the month recording 11 points over those seven games. It was his first hat trick with the Leafs and first since 2007. He had a season-high four points against Washington on November 19th.

The Maple Leafs hit the ice at the MasterCard Centre Tuesday in preparation for Wednesday's home game against the Boston Bruins. Head coach Ron Wilson said after practice that both David Steckel and Carl Gunnarsson remain day-to-day with their upper body injuries.

Mikhail Grabovski will continue to centre the fourth line to start the game with Philippe Dupuis and Jay Rosehill.

James Reimer continues to work his way towards a return to the lineup by the end of the week with Wilson hoping that Reimer could dress as the back up on Saturday in Boston.

There was some good news on the injury front Friday as James Reimer took to the ice for 15 minutes of drills with goaltending coach Francois Allaire and strength coach Anthony Belza.

Reimer moved side-to-side following the puck as Allaire and Belza passed the puck back-and-forth. He also faced shots from in close and the slot.

Reimer has made progress off the ice which led to him testing himself on the ice.

Toronto Maple Leafs president and general manager Brian Burke has donated a horse to the Toronto Police Service Mounted unit.

Burke inquired earlier this year about donating a horse and when he was told that his generosity would be accepted, the name which he decided to call the horse was Moose.

“I figured there had to be story behind that name and, when he told me, I was blown away,” S/Insp. Bill Wardle, the Mounted and Police Dog Services unit commander told the Toronto Police Services.

Moose was the nickname that Burke had for his late son Brendan Burke.

It was a good news bad news day for the Maple Leafs on Wednesday.

First, the good news. Tim Connolly will make his return to the lineup against the Nashville Predators on Thursday.

Now the bad news. Mikhail Grabovski will be out for two weeks with a lower body injury and Clarke MacArthur will be out of the lineup against the Predators.

With one of his top centres out for an extended period of time, head coach Ron Wilson is hoping someone can flourish with the chance.

“It is an opportunity for someone else to step up and get the job done,” Wilson said.

It appears the Maple Leafs will be getting centre Tim Connolly back soon. Connolly took part in Monday’s full practice on a line with Colton Orr and Jay Rosehill and while he doesn’t appear set to play Tuesday against Phoenix, he could return Thursday in Nashville.

“I’ve seemed to really turn a corner here and it’s only a matter of days before I’m back ready to go,” Connolly said. “I wasn’t at 100 per cent out there today but felt pretty good so we will see how I feel tomorrow.”

The last few days have been very encouraging for Connolly who despite the upper body injury continues to remain upbeat and positive.

“When it happened it was a bit frustrating but after that you have to battle mentally and be mentally strong and positive because being negative isn’t going to do you any good so just come to the rink and take it one day at a time,” he said.

After their win over the St. Louis Blues, there was no rest for the Maple Leafs who were back at MasterCard Centre for practice Friday ahead of Saturday’s Hockey Hall Of Fame Game against Ottawa.

“I know for the fans it’s the Battle Of Ontario but I think both teams go into not thinking of it as those terms,” said head coach Ron Wilson.

The two teams have split the first two meetings with each winning on home ice.

“It’s a division game which is always big,” Wilson noted. “They’re within shouting distance of us and we have to respect how they play.”
