The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Thursday their 25 player roster that will participate in a Rookie Tournament hosted by the Leafs. The tournament will be held in London, Ontario at the Budweiser Gardens. The players will compete in three games beginning on Thursday, September 5 against prospect teams from the Chicago Blackhawks, Pittsburgh Penguins and Ottawa Senators.
Attending the rookie tournament for the Maple Leafs is defenceman Morgan Rielly, who was Toronto’s first choice, selected fifth overall, at the 2012 NHL Draft. Rielly made his professional debut with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies in 2012-13, collecting 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists) in 14 regular season games. Other notables on the Leafs rookie tournament roster include defencemen Petter Granberg and Stuart Percy, as well as forwards Tyler Biggs, Greg McKegg and Brad Ross.
In addition, four of Toronto’s draft picks from 2013 will partake in the four-day tournament: Frederik Gauthier (21st overall), Carter Verhaeghe (82nd overall), Fabrice Herzog (142nd overall) and Antoine Bibeau (172nd overall).
Toronto Marlies head coach Steve Spott will oversee the club along with his assistant coaches Gord Dineen and Derek King.
