Inco Sudbury Saturday Night at Air Canada Centre with Stompin\' Tom Connors
Inco, a proud Canadian mining company and the western world's leading nickel producer, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The city and the working people of Sudbury have been at the heart of Inco's history from its earliest days to the present.

Sudbury also lies in the heartland of Canadian hockey. Over the years it has produced a long roster of hockey legends - Toe Blake, Al Arbour, Gerry Cheevers and Eddie Shack, to name a few.

On November 23rd, at the Toronto Maple Leafs-Philadelphia Flyers game we are proud to present Inco Sudbury Saturday Night at Air Canada Centre - in celebration of a great northern community and its long love affair with Canada's national game. Here's what is planned for the evening:

Inco is providing tickets to Easter Seals children from Sudbury, a Sudbury minor hockey team, employees from our Sudbury operations, and Sudbury dignitaries

  • Sudbury Mayor Jim Gordon will drop the puck in a pre-game ceremony, accompanied by Inco CEO Scott Hand
  • A teenage singer from Sudbury will sing both national anthems
  • A Timbits team from Sudbury will be featured in the first intermission
  • Canadian legend Stompin' Tom Connors will play live during the second intermission. He will perform Sudbury Saturday Night and The Hockey Song.
  • To mark the occasion, our Sudbury employees/hockey fans plan to give Don Cherry his own miner's hardhat.

Inco Sudbury Saturday Night is the crowning event in a year of anniversary celebrations at Inco this year. Our centennial theme is "Celebrating Our Human Spirit", recognizing our more than 10,000 employees in worldwide operations from Manitoba to Indonesia, and from Voisey's Bay in Newfoundland to New Caledonia in the South Pacific.

Inco hockey trivia: A former Inco vice-chairman, the late John McCreedy, played on the Stanley Cup winning Maple Leaf teams of 1941-42 and 1944-45. McCreedy is the only player in hockey history whose name is engraved on the Memorial Cup, the Allan Cup, the Championship du Monde Trophee (world amateur champiohship), and the Stanley Cup.
