Team White Triumphs at Bell Skills Competition

The White Team came out on top, but the real winners were local charities that benefit from the event.

The 12th annual Toronto Maple Leafs Skills Competition presented by Bell took place at Air Canada Centre Sunday.

In the six skill-challenging events, Ed Belfour's White Team came from behind to defeat Trevor Kidd's Blue Team in the competition by a score of 17-15. Team Blue held the lead from events one through five before Team White took the final breakaway relay event eight to five and the overall victory.

The two teams compteted in a variety of events here are their results.

KELLOGG'S PUCK CONTROL RELAY- (Won by the Blue Team)
The White Team consisting of Anders Eriksson, Alyn McCauley and Tomas Kaberle defeated the Blue Team of Nik Antropov, Robert Svehla and Robert Reichel. Ric Jackman (Blue) defeated Mikael Renberg (White) in the one-on-one challenge.

BELL FASTEST SKATER- (Won by the Blue Team)
Bryan McCabe of the Blue Team completed the fastest lap of the ice in just 14.237 seconds to win the individual competition. The Blue Team of McCabe, Jonas Hoglund and Aki Berg recorded the fastest average of 14.880 seconds.

McDONALDS HARDEST SHOT- (Won by the Blue Team)
Bryan McCabe of the Blue Team recorded the hardest shot on the Maple Leafs with a drive of 99.7 m.p.h. to win the individual competition. McCabe?s teammates of Ric Jackman, Jonas Hoglund and Nik Antropov were credited with another goal with a team average of 95.8 m.p.h.

PIZZA PIZZA SHOOTING ACCURACY- (Won by the White Team)
The White Team of Darcy Tucker, Anders Eriksson and Alex Mogilny defeated the Blue Team of Mats Sundin, Nik Antropov and Tie Domi. Mogilny and Tucker needed extra targets to break an individual tie, with Mogilny winning the individual title hitting five targets in seven shots. Team White won in overall accuracy, hitting a total of 12 targets in 19 shots.

ORVILLE REDENBACHER POWER PLAY- (Won by the White Team)
The White Team won the Powerplay event as the trio of Paul Healey, Alexander Mogilny and Tom Fitzgerald scored three times in six opportunities. White Team goaltender Ed Belfour allowed three goals on twelve shots.

PARMALAT BREAKAWAY RELAY- (Won by the White Team)
The White Team outscored the Blue Team eight goals to five in the breakaway relay.

The $150,000 in proceeds fromt he event will benefit the Leaf Fund, Hockey Fights Cancer (in support of Princess Margaret Hospital?s Prostate Cancer Centre), and the NHLPA Goals and Dreams Fund. Since its inception, the Leafs' Skills Event has raised over $1,100,000 for local charities.
