Maple Leafs Obtain Owen Nolan From Sharks
Pat Quinn, general manager and head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Wednesday the acquisition of Owen Nolan from the San Jose Sharks.

In exchange, the Maple Leafs dealt Alyn McCauley, Brad Boyes and their first-round selection in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft to the Sharks.

"This was a difficult deal to make since we gave up good, young, quality players and quality people but we feel Owen Nolan is a special player," said Quinn.

Nolan, 31, has recorded 22 goals and 20 assists in 61 games for San Jose this season. The forward is fourth in points among Sharks and tied for second in goals.

In his last 19 games he has collected 12 goals and seven assists. He is the Sharks' all-time leader in goals (206), assists (245), points (451) and powerplay goals (75).

Nolan was instrumental in Team Canada's Gold Medal triumph one year ago by earning three assists and leading all tournament players with a 79 per cent faceoff winning percentage in six games.

Playing in his 13th NHL season, the native of Belfast, Ireland has 323 goals, 352 assists, and 675 points in 836 career games with the Quebec Nordiques/ Colorado Avalanche, and San Jose Sharks.

He was originally Quebec's first choice, first overall, in the 1990 Entry Draft and traded (October 26, 1995) to San Jose from Colorado in exchange for Sandis Ozolinsh.

Nolan played in the NHL All-Star Game in 1992, 1996, 1997, 2000, and 2002.
