Maple Leafs Acquire Glen Wesley
Pat Quinn, general manager and head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Sunday that the hockey club has obtained defenceman Glen Wesley from the Carolina Hurricanes. In exchange, the Hurricanes will receive Toronto's second-round draft choice in the 2004 Entry Draft.

Wesley, 34, has one goal and seven assists to go along with 40 penalty minutes in 63 games with the Hurricanes this season. Playing in his 16th National Hockey League season, the native of Red Deer, Alberta has recorded 124 goals and 373 assists for 497 points in 1,166 career games.

"Coming up three games short (with Carolina in the Stanley Cup final vs. Detroit last spring) was disappointing, but coming to Toronto, with the changes they've made now and with Eddie Belfour in net, it's a team built up for the playoffs," said Wesley on Sunday.

Wesley is third behind Ron Francis and Kevin Dineen on the franchise's (Hartford and Carolina) all-time regular season games played list with 629. He is a veteran of 139 career NHL playoff games (15g, 34a) with the Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes and he played in two Stanley Cup Finals with the Bruins (1988 and 1990) and one with the Hurricanes (2002).

Glen was originally Boston's first choice, third overall, in the 1987 Entry Draft. He was named to the 1988 NHL All-Rookie Team after appearing in 79 regular season games and 23 playoff games with the Bruins. He was dealt to the Hartford Whalers August 25, 1994 from the Bruins for first-round draft picks in 1995, 1996, and 1997.
