Recently, we had the chance to do a Q+A with Maple Leafs' centreman Travis Green.

Q: How did your parents influence you growing up and playing hockey?

Travis: Well, looking back now if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be where I am without a doubt. I really owe everything to them as far as hockey goes and my whole life, really.

Q: Who was your hockey hero?

Travis: I would be lying if I didn't say the Montreal Canadians, I followed them as a die-hard fan and Guy LaFleur was my favourite player.

Q: How did that player influence you and have you met him in person?

Travis: No I never have, I'd love to, I used to have all his little note books and everything that they had back then. He was the top player in the league I remember watching Hockey Night in Canada every Saturday and it seemed like they were on all the time and we never missed a game.

Q: Do you have any pre-game rituals?

Travis: Yeah I do, not so much anymore as when I was younger, I was pretty superstitious and as you get older I think you realize that it doesn't matter what you do before the game as when you're out on the ice. You know just come to the rink, do my sticks and stretch a little and that's about it.

Q: What's so great about playing hockey and being an NHL star?

Travis:Far from a star but it's a dream come true for me to play in the NHL it's been 11 years now and I still value it and treat it like it was my first year you know that there is nothing else I'd rather be doing.

Q: What kind of pressure do you feel as a NHL star?

Travis: Well there is pressure there's no doubt about it, theres pressure to win and we get paid good money to do what were doing and you know I don't think that now-a-days you're not in the league too long if you don't adapt to the pressure and come to play every night.

Q: What does it feel like to score a goal at the ACC in front of thousands of fans?

Travis: It feels great I mean this is the best place I've ever played. Toronto is a die-hard hockey town and especially being a Canadian kid and growing up in Canada, watching Hockey Night in Canada I would like to see every Canadian boy get a chance to play in Toronto.

Q: Tell me about your greatest hockey accomplishment so far?

Travis: I would have to say last year when we went to the semi-finals. It was quite a year, a year I will always remember. But, hopefully the best is still yet to come and we can take it to a another level in Toronto.

Q: What do you think of when you're on the ice and do you see the fans screaming from the stands?

Travis: It's great, you know some teams that I've played for before, you go to the rink on certain nights it's only half filled and (in Toronto) every night you know it's going to be a full house. People are excited to watch you play and when we have a rough night we feel bad because we know the people want to win so bad and we want to win bad too.

Check back in upcoming weeks for the next installment of ASK A LEAF.
