Maple Leafs and Toronto Child Abuse Centre Work Together to Prevent Child Abuse
On March 21st, Ken Dryden, President of the Toronto Maple Leafs, former Toronto Blue Jay Rob Butler, and Toronto Child Abuse Centre will join 1000 students from elementary and secondary schools at Air Canada Centre in a partnership program to prevent child abuse.

For the past five years, the Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Club, together with the Toronto Child Abuse Centre, has hosted "Martin's Hope", an educational forum on child abuse. We have invited students from the Toronto District and Toronto Catholic District School Boards to attend. "Martin's Hope" is held in honour of Martin Kruze who hoped to prevent child sexual abuse through education and awareness. Over the past four years more than 2000 elementary and secondary students from schools across Toronto have participated in "Martin's Hope".

This year in 2003, we will talk with 1000 students at "Martins Hope"; this is an increase of fourfold in just five years. The I'm A Great Kid! Program, created by Toronto Child Abuse Centre, is used by teachers to teach children the skills they need to be safe. On March 21st, students will come together at Air Canada Centre to learn and explore creative ways of getting the message out to other children and adults that abuse can be prevented. The forum will include guest speakers, videos, group discussions and art activities as well as a special video with messages to students from Toronto Maple Leaf players.
We continue to gather against abuse. Please join us.

For more information please contact Karyn Kennedy, Director of Service, Toronto Child Abuse Centre.
