\"Ask A Leaf\" With Glen Wesley
Welcome to a "Ask a Leaf" on mapleleafs.com where you can ask a question of a member of the Maple Leafs each week and see selected answers posted here. You will also be able to see the answers on FanCam, one of the more popular shows on Leafs TV.

Recently, we had the chance to do a Q+A with Maple Leafs' blueliner Glen Wesley.

Q: How long have you been playing competitive hockey?

Glen: "This has been my 16th year playing in the professional league. I've played since I was a kid playing out in the front of my house in the snow. It has always been a dream to play in the National Hockey League."

Q: How many times have you been to the playoffs?

Glen: "It's an awesome experience to be able to make it to the finals. I have yet to win one. I have been to two finals with Boston and one with Carolina."

Q: What makes you a defensive defenceman?

Glen: "Well I think first and foremost, just reading the play. If forwards are coming after you, you have to make sure you are always in a smart position, and that your not getting beat to the net. Furthermore, if you can try to get from being beat from the corners, and from the front. With good body position your not going to get beat."

Wesley was huge on the blueline for the Leafs late in the season.

Q: How did it feel to be traded to the Maple Leafs during the 2003 season?

Glen: "Well it's been a childhood dream. I grew up watching the Leafs. I always watched Toronto on Hockey Night in Canada. Here I am, a Canadian kid playing here in Toronto; I think it's every Canadian kid's dream."

Q: Was it difficult to be traded to another team halfway through the season?

Glen: "I don't think so. The guys here have been awesome! I am fitting in and feeling comfortable. It's easy for myself to fit in with these guys."

Q: How did it feel to make your debut with the Toronto Maple Leafs?

Glen: "I was very nervous actually. To be able to get this experience is great. I can remember my first game in Edmonton, standing there at centre ice wearing a Leafs uniform. It was a great thrill."

Q: What are the biggest differences between playing here and playing in Carolina?

Glen: "I think the biggest difference is the media coverage, the papers and the cameras, especially on the road. This is a great hockey city. I got a little taste of that in Boston."

Q: What are your future goals as a Maple Leaf?

Glen: "Well. . .Obviously to win a Stanley Cup, that's why I came here."

Q: What do you do during the off season?

Glen: "I love to play golf, and spend time with my family."

Check back in upcoming weeks for the next installment and see the Features Archive for past installments of "Ask a Leaf".
