Dryden Dispells Rumours
TORONTO (CP)-- Maple Leafs president Ken Dryden has shot down a report that he's asked Edmonton Oilers coach Craig MacTavish if he's interested in stepping behind the Toronto bench.

The Globe and Mail reported Tuesday that Dryden had talked to MacTavish about the job. Pat Quinn currently serves as both general manager and head coach of the Leafs.

"I have spoken to one person about coaching the Toronto Maple Leafs and that was Pat Quinn and that was five years ago," Dryden told The Fan all-sports radio station Tuesday. "I've spoken to no one else since that time.

"I think I've met Craig MacTavish once. I've never spoken with him."

Toronto was ousted in the first round of the NHL playoffs by Philadephia.

The elimination led to immediate conjecture on Quinn's continued two-job role. The Leafs ownership has said it is in favour of splitting the jobs at some point in the future.

Sportsnet spoke with Oilers' management Tuesday who reiterated that no permission was granted to other teams to speak with MacTavish, nor did MacT ask for permission to speak with other teams.

MacTavish's contract expires on June 30 of this year, and up until then he will remain an employee of the Oilers.
