Maple Leafs Acquire Two Players
(TORONTO) -- May 29, 2003 - The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Thursday that the team has acquired centreman Harold Druken from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for defenceman Allan Rourke.

The team also announced that they have acquired centreman Jeff Daw from the Lowell Lock Monsters of the American Hockey League in exchange for future considerations.

Druken, 24, collected five points (one goal, four assists) with four penalty minutes in 22 NHL games this past season. He started the year with Vancouver and collected two points (one goal, one assist) in three games. Druken was acquired by Carolina along with Jan Hlavac from Vancouver in exchange for Darren Langdon and Marek Malik on November 1, 2002.

Druken appeared in 10 games for the Hurricanes and registered one assist with two penalty minutes before being claimed off waivers by Toronto on December 11, 2002.

In five games with the Maple Leafs, he registered two assists with two penalty minutes. He was subsequently re-claimed by Carolina January 17, 2003 and was pointless in four games.

Druken also appeared in 30 AHL games with Lowell and St. John's collecting 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) with 10 penalty minutes. The native of St. John's, Newfoundland has played 137 career NHL games collecting 59 points (27 goals, 32 assists) with 34 penalty minutes.

His best season came during the 2000-01 campaign when he registered 30 points (15 goals, 15 assists) in 55 games with Vancouver. He was originally Vancouver's third choice, 36th overall, in the 1997 Entry Draft.

Daw, 31, appeared in 63 AHL games last season and collected 36 points (16 goals, 20 assists) with 151 penalty minutes. He started the year with Lowell and collected 30 points (14 goals, 16 assists) with 113 penalty minutes in 51 games. He appeared in 12 games for Springfield and registered six points (two goals, four assists) with 38 penalty minutes. He also played six AHL playoff games and collected two assists with two penalty minutes.

The native of Carlisle, Ontario appeared in one career NHL game with Colorado during the 2001-2002 season and registered his first career NHL point (assist). He was originally signed as a free agent by Vancouver September 6, 2000.

Rourke, 23, completed his third year with St. John's of the American Hockey League this past season. He collected 31 points (12 goals, 19 assists) with 49 penalty minutes in 65 games. He led team defencemen in goals and finished second in points. He was Toronto's sixth choice, 154th overall, in the 1998 Entry Draft.
