Shedden Named Coach Of Baby Leafs
Pat Quinn, general manager and head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Tuesday that Doug Shedden has been named the new head coach of the club's American Hockey League affiliate in St. John's. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Shedden spent the last three seasons as the head coach of the Memphis RiverKings in the Central Hockey League (CHL). Over that span he compiled a record of 128-56-14 and led the RiverKings to the President's Cup (playoff championship) the past two seasons.

Before joining Memphis, Shedden was the head coach of the Flint Generals in the United Hockey League (UHL) for one season in 1999-2000.

His club set UHL regular season records in points (111-tie) and fewest losses (14) en route to winning the playoff championship. He has also had coaching stops with the Louisiana IceGators of the East Coast Hockey League (1995-96 to 1998-99) and the Wichita Thunder of CHL (1992-93 to 1994-95).

His overall coaching record in the regular season is 452-203-61 and 64-34 in the playoffs.

Shedden played 416 career NHL games and collected 325 points (139 goals, 186 assists) with 176 penalty minutes. He appeared in 24 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs from 1988-89 to 1990-91 and registered 18 points (eight goals, 10 assists) with 12 minutes in penalties.

The club also announced that Kevin McClelland and Russ Adam will remain as Shedden's assistant coaches in St. John's.
