2003-04 Regular Season Schedule Announced
The Toronto Maple Leafs will host Original Six rival the Montreal Canadiens on October 11 to open their 77th season in the National Hockey League. The Stanley Cup champion New Jersey Devils will oppose the Maple Leafs at Continental Airlines Arena in Toronto's first road game October 16.
Saturday night games dominate the Maple Leafs schedule with Toronto playing 25 times, with 17 of the contests to be played at Air Canada Centre. The team will also play 18 games on Thursday (four at home and 14 on the road) and 17 games on Tuesday (15 at home and two on the road). The Maple Leafs do not have home games scheduled for Wednesday, Friday or Sunday.
Toronto will play 15 games in November (four at home and 11 on the road) and January (nine at home and six on the road), the two busiest months for the club. The Maple Leafs will close out the schedule with a two-game road trip with the season finale April 3 at Ottawa.
The Maple Leafs will play Northeast Division rivals six times this season as opposed to five times last year. Anaheim, Dallas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Jose and Minnesota will not travel to Toronto to play the Maple Leafs in 2003-04. On the road, the club will not face Chicago, Columbus, Detroit, Nashville, St. Louis and Colorado.
For the first time in six years, the Maple Leafs will travel to Phoenix (October 23), Anaheim (November 12), Los Angeles (November 13) and San Jose (November 15). The club will also face the Minnesota Wild on the road for the first time in franchise history (December 11).
The NHL All-Star Weekend will take place February 7 and 8 in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The Maple Leafs will hold their 2003 Training Camp in Sweden beginning September 12. This will mark the first time the club will train outside of North America. Toronto will play a total of 11 preseason games, including three against Jokerit (September 16), Djurgarden (September 18) and Farjestad (September 19) in Sweden and Finland.
Of the remaining games, four will take place at Air Canada Centre against Buffalo (September 21), Montreal (September 29), Ottawa (October 1) and Detroit (October 5). The Maple Leafs will also host Ottawa at Mile One Stadium in St. John's, Newfoundland on September 27. The club travels to Montreal (September 23), Ottawa (September 26) and Detroit (October 4) to round out the preseason schedule.
All preseason games will be broadcast live on Leafs TV.
