Personal

    John Ferguson Jr. was named Leafs GM on Friday.

  • Born July 7, 1967, Montreal, Quebec.
  • Attended Providence College from 1985 to 1989 earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Magna Cum Laude, in 1989.
  • Recognized with Providence College Hockey Academic Achievement Award in 1987, 1988 and 1989.
  • Named to the NCAA Division I Hockey Academic All-American Team in 1989.
  • Attended Suffolk University Law School from 1993-1996 earning a Juris Doctorate Degree in Law, Cum Laude, in 1996.
  • Recognized on Dean's Honour List 1994, 1995 and 1996.
  • Admitted to Massachusetts State Bar in 1996.
  • Married. John and his wife Stephanie have three children; Emily, John and Grace.

Playing Career

  • Played four seasons of collegiate hockey at Providence College (NCAA-Hockey East)
  • Served as Alternate Captain during 1988-89 season.
  • Received Providence's Unsung Hero and Captain's Award in 1988-89.
  • Drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 12th round, 247th overall in 1985 NHL Entry Draft.
  • Played four seasons of professional hockey in the International and American Hockey Leagues (1989-90 through 1992-93).
  • Played 227 games and registered 42 goals, 58 assists for 100 points with Peoria (IHL), Sherbrooke (AHL), Fredericton (AHL) and New Haven (AHL).
  • Alternate Captain of 1991-92 AHL regular season champion Fredericton Canadiens.
  • Presented with Fredericton's Unsung Hero Award in 1990-91 and 1991-92.

Professional

  • Served as a Pro and Amateur Scout with the Ottawa Senators organization from 1993 to 1996.
  • Also spent the summers of 1994 and 1995 working for the National Hockey League's Hockey Operations and Legal Departments.
  • Acted as a player agent and served as Vice-President and Director of Hockey Operations for Lawton Sport and Financial (now Octagon Hockey) between 1996 and 1997.
  • Joined the St. Louis Blues as Assistant General Manager in 1997, which included the roles of President, Governor and General Manager of the Blues' affiliate, the American Hockey League's Worcester IceCats.
  • Served as chairman of the American Hockey League's Competition Committee and was a member of the League's Legal Affairs Committee.
  • Named Vice-President and Director of Hockey Operations with the St. Louis Blues Hockey Club in 2001.
