Maple Leafs, Domi Face Off Against Breast Cancer
The Toronto Maple Leafs go pink as they raise awareness for breast cancer research

(November 7, 2003) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs players, players' wives and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) have teamed up for Saturday night's game against the Edmonton Oilers to fight breast cancer.

The Maple Leafs have incorporated a "pink ribbon" theme throughout the evening with Leafs wives and CBCF volunteers distributing 20,000 pink ribbons and collecting donations from fans attending the game, to the Leafs wearing exclusive pink ribbon game night helmets. The Leafs will auction their pink ribbon game night helmets on www.mapleleafs.com, with all proceeds going to breast cancer research.

Maple Leafs forward Tie Domi will serve as a special ambassador and spokesperson for the CBCF.

"The Toronto Maple Leafs are excited to be partnering with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation," said Beverley Deeth, director of community relations for the Toronto Maple Leafs. "By having a pink ribbon theme at Saturday night's game, the Maple Leafs will help raise much needed awareness about breast cancer to a nation-wide audience and draw attention to a disease that affects thousands of Canadians each year."

The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is the leading volunteer-based organization dedicated to fighting breast cancer in Canada. Their message to all Canadians is simple - early detection and taking responsibility for one's own breast health is improving breast cancer survival rates.

"An estimated 21,000 women and 140 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in Canada this year," said Judy Steele, national board chair of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. "Having Tie and the Toronto Maple Leafs participate in this pink ribbon campaign will have a tremendous impact to those already affected by the disease and will help us create a future without breast cancer."
