Toronto Takes On Kings

November 13, 2002

GAME: Toronto Maple Leafs (7-5-3-1) at Los Angeles Kings (8-5-0-1).

TIME: Thursday, 10:30 p.m. EST.

After a successful road trip, the Los Angeles Kings return home to play three straight games, beginning with a matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Kings ended a four-game trip with seven of a possible eight points, winning three games and losing in overtime.

"We're on a great roll. It's fun," Trent Klatt said. "It's a healthy hockey team when you don't have selfish players out there."

Klatt scored two goals in Los Angeles' 3-2 victory over the Washington Capitals on Monday. Brad Chartrand and Alexander Frolov assisted on Klatt's goals, and Sean Avery also scored for the surging Kings.

"We play hard and we don't give up a lot of scoring chances," Los Angeles coach Andy Murray said. "We have a pretty well-balanced team. Different people have stepped up at different times on this road trip for us."

Kings winger Ziggy Palffy, who leads the league with 15 assists, failed to record a point Monday for the first time in five games.

The Maple Leafs are hoping to get back on track after having their four-game unbeaten streak end on Wednesday.

Sergei Fedorov scored two of Anaheim's three second-period goals as the Mighty Ducks beat Toronto 5-1.

Mikael Renberg scored for the Maple Leafs in the opener of their six-game road trip.

Toronto center Joe Nieuwendyk sat out his fifth straight game because of back spasms. He was sidelined throughout the Stanley Cup finals by a torn muscle in his left side while New Jersey beat the Ducks in seven games.
