Sundin Suspended One Game

(Jan 7, 2004) -- Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mats Sundin has been suspended for one game, without pay, for an incident in which he threw his stick into the stands during NHL game #600 against the Nashville Predators on January 6.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Sundin will forfeit $47,685.19. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
The incident occurred midway through the second period. No penalty was assessed on the play.
"Regardless of whether Mr. Sundin may have been overcome by the frustration or emotion of the moment, there is no way the League can tolerate his reaction," said NHL Executive Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell.
Sundin will miss tomorrow's game against Ottawa and will be eligible to return Jan. 10 against New Jersey.
