Air Canada Centre Fast Facts
This weekend marks the 5th Anniversary that the Maple Leafs played their first game at Air Canada Centre against the Montreal Canadiens. The Leafs defeated the Canadiens that night 3-2 in overtime and have had plenty of success in their new home. Here now are some neat and interesting facts about the Air Canada Centre.

  • The arena's ice surface has enough ice to make two million one-inch ice cubes.
  • 2,000 tonnes of steel in Air Canada Centre, the equivalent of 2,000 average size cars.
  • 27,128 - Total cubic meters of concrete poured in the Air Canada Centre - enough to make a 5-foot sidewalk from Air Canada Centre to Niagara Falls.
  • 212 - Number of Toronto Raptors regular season games played at Air Canada Centre as of February 20, 2004
  • The amount of dirt excavated during the construction of Air Canada Centre could fill up 2,000 swimming (household) pools.
  • 10 kilometers of steel piping installed for the ice rink alone.
  • 8 feet - The height of the doorframes in the Raptor's locker room.
  • 1,800 - average number of hot dogs sold at a single event.
  • 700 - Number of televisions throughout the arena, some of which are located in the washrooms.
  • 300 - Number of televisions needed to make up the size of the four 16' x 9' video boards at Air Canada Centre.
  • 200 lbs. of cheese sauce for nachos that Air Canada Centre uses for every game.
  • 40 - Number of concessions stands throughout Air Canada Centre.
  • 308,000 - Total wattage of lights used for a basketball or hockey game  - enough to light the average school for more than a week.
  • 1 Million - Total of worker-hours logged in the construction of Air Canada Centre
  • 32,000 - number of cookies baked each year
  • Over 500,000 litres of beer are served each year, which would fill half of an Olympic-sized swimming pool.
Each game night Air Canada Centre's three restaurants (The Platinum Club, Air Canada Club and the Hot Stove Lounge):
  • cook 100 kilograms of potatoes
  • make 60 litres of soup
  • cook 20 kilograms of pasta
  • use 22 different spices
  • prepare one metric tonne of meat
  • use five kilograms of chocolate
  • There is enough wire in the arena to stretch from P.E.I. to Vancouver, British Columbia.
