McCabe, Sundin Second-Team All Stars

TORONTO (June 10) - Ottawa Senators defenseman Zdeno Chara, New Jersey Devils defenseman Scott Niedermayer and Tampa Bay Lightning right wing Martin St. Louis are first-time selections to the NHL's First All-Star Team, announced this evening at the annual NHL Awards Show in Toronto.

McCabe and Sundin would rather be celebrating something else this spring, but they'll take the honour.

Joining Chara, Niedermayer and St. Louis on the First Team are Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils, who earned his second consecutive selection at goaltender; Markus Naslund of the Vancouver Canucks, who earned his third consecutive berth at left wing and Joe Sakic of the Colorado Avalanche, who garnered his third career selection at center.

The Second Team features three players making debuts on an NHL All-Star Team, left wing Ilya Kovalchuk of the Atlanta Thrashers, goaltender Roberto Luongo of the Florida Panthers and defenseman Bryan McCabe of the Toronto Maple Leafs. They are joined by Calgary Flames right wing Jarome Iginla, who is making his first appearance on the Second Team to go with one previous First Team selection; St. Louis Blues defenseman Chris Pronger, who earned his second career Second Team berth to go with one previous First Team selection; and Maple Leafs center Mats Sundin, making his second appearance on the Second Team.

Voting for the All-Star Team is conducted among representatives of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association at the end of the regular season.
