Leaf Rookies Still Undefeated
September 11, 2004

(MONTREAL) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Ottawa Senators 6-2 on Sunday September 12 at the rookie tournament in Montreal. Matt Hubbauer opened the scoring for Toronto in the first period when he circled out in front of the net and scored a powerplay goal from 10 feet out with a two man advantage.

Hubbauer scored another powerplay marker just 31 seconds later taking a nice pass from Rich Peverley and beating the Ottawa goaltender from 25 feet out with a slapshot. Ottawa scored 12 seconds later to cut the lead to one after the first period. The Senators tied the game early in the second period with a shorthanded goal, but Hubbauer completed the hat trick just as a Toronto powerplay had expired.

It was a lead that Toronto would never relinquish. Scott May scored on the powerplay banging in a rebound on the short side off an Ian White shot, while Cam Keith rounded out the scoring in the second period beating the Ottawa goaltender between the legs off a rebound from a Peverley shot. Toronto scored an insurance marker in the third period when Jeremy Williams one timed a slap shot high glove side past the Ottawa goaltender converting a nice feed from John Mitchell.

The game featured four fights and a total of 106 penalty minutes (56 minutes to Ottawa compared to Toronto's 40 minutes). Brendan Bell again wore the C for Toronto while Williams and Ian White served as alternates.
