Leafs Announce AHL Week In Toronto

(November 10, 2004) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs and American Hockey League (AHL) President & CEO Dave Andrews announced Wednesday that they will celebrate the return of AHL hockey to Toronto during the week of November 29 to December 3.

The Leafs' AHL team, the St. John's Maple Leafs will play two home games against the Binghamton Senators, Ottawa's AHL franchise, at Air Canada Centre on December 1 and 3. Both games serve as a preview of Leafs AHL hockey for fans in the Greater Toronto Area. The AHL Leafs will relocate to Toronto at the start of the 2005-06 season to play at Ricoh Coliseum.

"We're very pleased to bring these two AHL Leafs games to Toronto," said John Ferguson, general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. "The AHL is an exciting and engaging brand of professional hockey. It's a great opportunity for fans to see how some of our top prospects are performing this season."

The team will hold a number of other activities during the week to introduce the players and coaches to the community including an open practice at Rennie Park and autograph sessions after each games. St. John's players will also join Leafs alumni in the annual Siemens Toronto Maple Leafs Skate for Easter Seals Kids that support children with physical disabilities.

"Bringing AHL hockey back to Toronto is a great initiative for the city, hockey fans and most especially Leafs fans," said Andrews. "Toronto has clearly shown that it can support another Leafs team. It's also a great opportunity for hockey fans to see the Leafs of the future and the NHL stars of tomorrow."
