Leafs Announce New Medical Team
(September 9, 2005) -- Toronto Maple Leafs general manager John Ferguson announced the team""s new medical staff Friday. Kevin Wagner, former head trainer for the Ottawa Senators from 1997 through 2002, has been named head athletic therapist. Chris Davie, a therapist in the Edmonton Oilers organization the past six years, will serve as assistant athletic therapist. Dr. Noah Forman has been named medical director for the Leafs and Toronto Marlies and head team Physician of the Leafs. Dr. Erin Boynton will serve as orthopaedic consultant to both clubs.

""This new medical model is now consistent with the strategic plan of the Leafs organization,"" said Ferguson. ""The health care of our players is an integral component to each of our development strategies. We""re pleased to be able to bring in professionals with their depth of experience in sports medicine, orthopaedics, emergency and other critical disciplines.""

A graduate of the University of Alberta, the 38-year-old Wagner has served as Athletic Therapist with Hockey Canada since 1997 and with the Canadian national men""s soccer team. He spent five seasons with the Senators following a three-year stint as physiotherapist of the Canadian national hockey team that included the 1998 Winter Olympic Games, 1997 and 1998 World Hockey Championships. Wagner was assistant trainer and therapist with the Edmonton Eskimos from 1991 to 1995.

Davie is also a graduate of the athletic therapy program at the University of Alberta. He spent four seasons on the staff of the Edmonton Eskimos before moving on to work as therapist with the Hamilton Bulldogs, Toronto Roadrunners and Edmonton Roadrunners.

Dr. Forman has been a health care manager in the areas of sports medicine, emergency services, and family medicine since he began his career in 1986. In addition to his family practice, Dr. Forman has held the position of Senior Physician with the Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Club since 1989, and is Chief Medical Officer for Toronto Fire Services. He is also the Medical Director with Parkview Emergency Services, which provides paramedic services during events at Air Canada Centre, among other venues.

As a certified Medical Review Officer, Dr. Forman is one of the few Canadian physicians licensed to conduct drug testing of elite athletes. Dr. Forman has been on the active staff of North York General Hospital since 1986.

Dr. Boynton has been affiliated with the Toronto Blue Jays as an orthopaedic team physician for the past five years, and is an orthopaedic consultant for the Toronto Argonauts. A member of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Dr. Boynton has also worked with athletes from the National Hockey League, Canadian Football League, National Football League and the sport of tennis.
