Leafs Host Coaches Helping Coaches Clinic

(September 16, 2005) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Friday that they will host the sixth annual Coaches Helping Coaches clinic presented by Tim Hortons on Sunday, September 18 at Air Canada Centre.

With more than 1,000 in attendance, Coaches Helping Coaches represents one of the largest gatherings of minor hockey coaches in Canada. Attendees will have an opportunity to get advice and tips from some of the greatest minds in professional hockey today, while gaining valuable skills ranging from ice usage, skill teaching, practice planning, goaltending and off-ice conditioning.

The day-long clinic is free and open to all Ontario minor hockey coaches. Leafs head coach Pat Quinn, Leafs assistant coach Keith Acton and goaltending coach Steve McKichan, Marlies head coach Paul Maurice, Ottawa Senators head coach Bryan Murray and Brampton Battalion general manager and head coach Stan Butler head the list of accomplished instructors at this year's clinic. Participants can watch Quinn put the entire Leafs team through a game-day practice that will include detailed demonstrations for each key position.

""Minor league hockey represents the future of our game and a tremendous training ground for the players and coaches,"" said Leafs general manager John Ferguson. ""It's critical that these individuals have access to the best coaching possible today so that hockey remains healthy tomorrow.""

Coaches Helping Coaches is a hockey development initiative of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Helping shape the future of hockey in Canada, Leafs Hockey Development increases access, opportunity and skill development of youth in hockey throughout Ontario and Canada.

Interested coaching applicants should log on to call(416) 815-5482 for more information.
