McCabe Named D-Man of Week

NEW YORK/TORONTO (October 17, 2005) -- Nashville forward Steve Sullivan, whose club-leading seven points (four goals, three assists) helped the Predators collect three consecutive road victories and extend their season-opening winning streak to five games, has been named the NHL's Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, October 16. Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Bryan McCabe, who recorded eight points (one goal, seven assists) in four games, has been named the League's Defensive Player of the Week.

Philadelphia Flyers left wing Simon Gagne, who posted seven points (four goals, three assists) in three games, Maple Leafs right wing Jeff O'Neill (4-3--7 in four games) and Carolina Hurricanes center Rod Brind'Amour (3-2--5 in two games) were runners-up for offensive honors, while defensemen John-Michael Liles of the Colorado Avalanche (2-4--6 in three games), the Maple Leafs' Tomas Kaberle (0-6--6 in four games) and Steve Eminger of the Washington Capitals (2-3--5 in four games) were runners-up for the defensive award.

Sullivan tallied three points (one goal, two assists), all in the third period, in the Predators' 5-4 comeback victory at Colorado Wednesday and had three more points (two goals, one assist) in a 5-4 shootout at Phoenix Thursday. He finished the week with one goal in a 4-1 victory at St. Louis Saturday, Nashville's first victory at Savvis Center since Jan. 4, 2001.

With 10 points (four goals, six assists) in five games, Sullivan has a share of the NHL points lead with the Flyers' Gagne (7-3--10) and Peter Forsberg (0-10--10). The 31-year-old Timmins, Ontario native has averaged well in excess of a point per game in a Predators uniform since arriving from Chicago in a February, 2004 trade, notching 40 points (13 goals, 27assists) in 29 games.

McCabe recorded three points (one goal, two assists) in a 6-5 shootout loss to the Ottawa Senators Monday, tallied one assist in a 4-2 victory against the Philadelphia Flyers Tuesday and notched four assists in a 9-1 victory at Atlanta Friday. McCabe finished the week by logging a game-high 26:09 in ice time as the Maple Leafs defeated the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 at Bell Centre.
