Team White Takes Skills Challenge

(February 27, 2006) -- The 14th annual Bell Toronto Maple Leafs Skills Competition took place at Air Canada Centre. In the six skill-challenging events, the White Team defeated the Blue Team by a score of 18-17. Kyle Wellwood of the White Team won the Bell Fastest Skater event and scored the winning goal of the skills competition in the Esso Breakaway Relay.  Prior to the skills competition, the crowd of 17,300 watched two giant pucks race against each other in the REEBOK PUCK PURSUIT. The following is a summary of the 2006 Bell Toronto Maple Leaf Skills Competition results.

KELLOGG'S FROSTED FLAKES PUCK CONTROL RELAY (Won by the Blue Team)
In the overall competition the Blue Team consisting of Staffan Kronwall, Ken Klee and Tie Domi defeated the White Team of Jason Allison, Wade Belak and Clarke Wilm.  In the one-one-one challenge, Matt Stajan (White) defeated Darcy Tucker (Blue).

BELL FASTEST SKATER (Won by the White Team)
Kyle Wellwood of the White Team completed the fastest lap of the ice in just 14.288 seconds to win the individual competition.  The White Team also took the overall event as Wellwood, Jeff O'Neill and Matt Stajan registered the fastest average time of 14.608 seconds.

PIZZA PIZZA HARDEST SHOT (Won by the White Team)
Chad Kilger of the White Team recorded the hardest shot with a drive of 103.1 m.p.h. to win the individual hardest shot competition.  Team White's Jason Allison won the hardest wrist shot competition (72.8 m.p.h.), and Clarke Wilm (50.6 m.p.h.) took the hardest backhand event.  The White Team consisting of Kilger, Wade Belak and Alexander Khavanov won the overall hardest shot event with an average of 96.1 m.p.h.

MCDONALD'S SHOOTING ACCURACY (Won by the Blue Team)
The Blue Team of Mariusz Czerkawski, Darcy Tucker and Alex Steen defeated the White Team of Matt Stajan, Alexander Khavanov and Kyle Wellwood.  The Blue Team hit a total of 10 targets in 19 shots.  Steen won individual honours by hitting four targets on five shots.

DANONE POWER PLAY CHALLENGE (Won by the Blue Team)
The Blue Team won the event led by the trio of Alex Steen, Nik Antropov and Mariusz Czerkawski who scored three goals.  Goaltender Ed Belfour allowed just three goals against the White Team, while Ed's son Dayn surrendered only five goals.

ESSO BREAKAWAY RELAY (Tie)
The White Team and Blue Team each scored six goals in the breakaway relay.
