Maple Leafs Sign Mike Peca
(July 18, 2006) -- John Ferguson, vice-president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Tuesday that the club has signed free agent forward Michael Peca to a one-year contract. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Peca, a 32-year-old Toronto native, played the 2005-06 season with the Edmonton Oilers skating in 71 games collecting 23 points (nine goals, 14 assists) along with 56 penalty minutes.  In the playoffs, Peca helped lead the Oilers to the Stanley Cup Finals by scoring six goals and five assists for 11 points in 22 games.

During Peca's NHL career, he has competed in 693 games with Edmonton, the New York Islanders, Buffalo Sabres and Vancouver Canucks earning 394 points (160 goals, 234 assists) and adding 616 penalty minutes.  Peca won the Frank J. Selke Trophy as the NHL's Top Defensive forward in 1997 and 2002.

Peca was originally Vancouver's second choice, 40th overall, in 1992 Entry Draft.
