Maple Leafs Sign Boyd Devereaux

(October 7, 2006) -- John Ferguson, vice-president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Saturday that the club has signed unrestricted free agent forward Boyd Devereaux to a one year contract and assigned him to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. In keeping with club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Devereaux, 28, played 78 games with the Phoenix Coyotes during the 2005-06 season collecting 22 points (eight goals, 14 assists) with 44 penalty minutes.

The native of Seaforth, Ontario has played 509 NHL games with Edmonton, Detroit and Phoenix collecting 131 points (46 goals, 85 assists) with 167 penalty minutes. Devereaux was a member of the 2002 Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Wings setting career highs in games played (79) and goals (9). He was Edmonton's first choice, sixth overall in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.
