Leafs, Raptors Launch Purolator Food Drive Challenge
November 22, 2006

(TORONTO) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors and Purolator have partnered for the Purolator Food Drive Challenge. Hockey and basketball fans attending Leafs and Raptors games during the remainder of November are encouraged to drop off non-perishable food items or cash donations at the Purolator Food Drive Challenge bins located at all Air Canada Centre gates.

Leafs Goaltender Andrew Raycroft and former NBA player and Toronto Raptors Community Leader Jerome Williams announced further details about two special nights at Air Canada Centre Tuesday during a visit to Toronto's Daily Bread Food Bank.

On November 22, fans attending the Raptors game versus the Cleveland Cavaliers who bring three non-perishable food items or donate $5 can have their photo taken with Williams.  Leafs fans attending Saturday's game versus the Boston Bruins can have their photo taken with Leafs alumni Wendel Clark when they make a similar donation. Purolator will match all food and financial donations made by Leafs and Raptors fans during the Food Drive Challenge.  All proceeds will support Toronto's Daily Bread Food Bank.

"As long time supporters of the Daily Bread Food Bank, the Leafs and Raptors are excited to partner together with the support of Purolator in the fight against hunger," said John Lashway, senior vice-president of communications and community development at Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. "Our goal is to raise awareness of the continuous need for donations, not just through the holiday season, but year-round."

"Hunger is an important issue that affects all communities in which we serve, work and live," said Jim MacIntosh, General Manager, Field Sales and Operations for Metro Toronto at Purolator. "This initiative is a great example of the level of commitment and dedication of the Leafs, Raptors, Purolator employees and Toronto sports fans in helping alleviate hunger in our own community. We are proud to be part of this team effort."

As the largest food relief organization in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), the Daily Bread Food Bank served more than 900,000 people last year, of which 38% were children.

The Purolator Food Drive Challenge is an initiative of Leafs and Raptors Community Development that provides effective and innovative outreach programs that support the community and various charitable organizations.
