Perreault Obtained from Phoenix

February 27, 2007

(TORONTO) -- John Ferguson, vice-president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Tuesday afternoon that the club has obtained Yanic Perreault and a fifth-round pick in the 2008 Entry Draft from the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for Brendan Bell and Toronto's second-round pick in 2008.

In 49 games with the Coyotes in 2006-07, the centreman has 19 goals, 14 assists, seven powerplay goals and five game-winning goals. He currently leads the league in faceoff win percentage at 62.6 per cent. He represented the Coyotes in the NHL All-Star Game last month and recorded two goals. Perreault signed a one-year contract with Phoenix on October 30, 2006.

Perreault, 35, was originally drafted by the Maple Leafs with their first selection (47th overall) in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft.

This will be his third tour of duty with the Maple Leafs. He previously spent time in Toronto from 1991 to 1994 and from 1999 to 2001. Perreault will join Harry Cameron, Wendel Clark, Babe Dye and Ben Grant as players having three different playing tenures with the Maple Leafs during their careers.

In 159 regular season games in a Toronto uniform he scored 52 goals and 66 assists for 118 points with 86 penalty minutes. He collected five goals and 10 assists in 29 Maple Leafs playoff games.

For his career, he has scored 236 goals and added 261 assists for 497 points in 789 NHL games.
