Joe and Harry Team Up To Fight Leukemia
Joe is a long standing supporter of the Society - his son Sean was diagnosed with leukemia, and thanks to a dedicated team of health care workers supported by years of research, he beat the odds. In support of this year's event, Joe is joined by colleagues Harry Neale, and the Ottawa Senators' Dean Brown.
"We are proud of the history we share with the Society," says Rob Edwards, president, UFCW Local 12R24. "On May 26 and 27, every one of The Beer Store's locations will be staffed by our employee volunteers, asking customers to donate their empties. The UFCW has supported this cause for 18 years now, and I am so impressed by the numbers of volunteers from our local who donate their time to this wonderful event."
"We are delighted to have these NHL broadcasters, the UFCW Local 12R24 and The Beer Store lend their support to this important fundraising initiative," says Robin Markowitz, National Director of Development & Marketing, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada. "The funds we raise will make a significant difference in the lives of people all across Ontario."
"This year, with the event being held over two days and the addition of wine and spirit bottles as accepted containers for donation, we're confident that our fundraising goal of $500,000 will be met," says Ted Clarke, president of The Beer Store. "Our customers are incredibly generous, and we are thrilled to continue our partnership with the Union and the Society."
