Leafs Sign David Ling

(July 9, 2007) - John Ferguson, vice-president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Monday that the club has signed forward David Ling to a one-year contract.

Ling, 32, played last season with Moscow Dynamo in the Russian Super League.  In 42 games he collected 10 goals and 16 assists for 26 points, and added 91 penalty minutes.

“David is an established veteran forward, who has played for the organization in the past, and we welcome his return as we continue to add depth and experience to our group,” said Ferguson.

This will be Ling’s second tour of duty with the Maple Leafs organization.  During the 2004-05 season he led St. John’s, the Maple Leafs former AHL affiliate, in scoring with 88 points on 28 goals and 60 assists, along with 152 penalty minutes.

Ling has played in 93 career NHL games with Montreal and Columbus where he recorded four goals, four assists and eight points, and added 191 penalty minutes.

In 406 career AHL games, Ling has scored 132 goals, 256 assists and 388 points, along with 1121 penalty minutes.

Ling was the Canadian Major Junior Player of the Year and the Ontario Hockey League’s Most Valuable Player when he played for the Kingston Frontenacs during the 1994-95 season.

The Halifax, Nova Scotia native was originally the Quebec Nordiques ninth choice, 179th overall, in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.
