Maple Leafs And Boyce Agree to Terms
John Ferguson, vice-president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Tuesday that the team has signed Darryl Boyce to an NHL entry level contract.

“In his first year of professional hockey, Darryl has stepped right in and proven to be a versatile and important contributor to the success of the Toronto Marlies in the first half of the season,” said Ferguson. “Darryl is a character player with strong hockey sense and he bolsters our depth at the centre position. We are very pleased to have him as part of the Maple Leaf organization.”

Boyce, 23, has appeared in all 32 games this season for the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League (AHL). The centreman has six goals and 16 assists to go along with 56 penalty minutes. He leads the Marlies with a plus 17 mark and he ranks second on the team in assists and fifth in points (tie).

The native of Summerside, Prince Edward Island spent the previous two seasons with the University of New Brunswick (UNB) where he collected a combined 65 points (29g, 36a) in 53 Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) games. In his freshman CIS season, Boyce was named the league’s rookie of the year. He garnered Most Valuable Player honours as UNB captured the 2007 University Cup signifying the National Championship.

Undrafted in the NHL Entry Draft, he played in 262 games with the Toronto St. Michael’s Majors of the Ontario Hockey League from 2001-2005.

The Toronto Marlies lead the AHL’s North Division by nine points and will host the Rochester Americans tomorrow evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Ricoh Coliseum at Exhibition Place.
