Team White Defeats Team Blue at Annual Skills Competition

The 16th annual McDonald’s Toronto Maple Leafs Skills Competition presented by Rogers took place at Air Canada Centre Sunday morning.

In the six skill-challenging events, Team White topped Team Blue by a score of 11-9. Chad Kilger of Team White won his third consecutive Pizza Pizza Hardest Shot competition, as Team Blue’s Tomas Kaberle continued to demonstrate his sniping skills in the Rogers Shooting Accuracy event . The following is a results summary of the 2008 McDonald’s Toronto Maple Leaf Skills Competition presented by Rogers.

TORONTO SUN PUCK CONTROL RELAY
(Won by Team White)

In the overall relay competition, Team White consisting of Alex Steen, Anton Stralman, and Dominic Moore defeated Team Blue’s Ian White, Matt Stajan and Boyd Devereaux.  In the one-on-one challenge, Team White’s Jiri Tlusty defeated Team Blue’s Robbie Earl.

MCDONALDS FASTEST SKATER (Won by Team White)

Jason Blake of Team Blue completed the fastest lap of the ice in just 14.343 seconds to win the individual competition. Team White took the overall event as Jiri Tlusty, Dominic Moore, and Anton Stralman registered the fastest average time of 14.61 seconds.

PIZZA PIZZA HARDEST SHOT
(Won by Team White)

Chad Kilger of Team White recorded his third consecutive individual hardest shot competition title with a blast of exactly 100 mph. His teammates Wade Belak, Jiri Tlusty, and Pavel Kubina helped boost the team to victory in the event, with an average speed of 96.65 mph.

ROGERS SHOOTING ACCURACY


(Won by Team White / Individual: Tomas Kaberle (Team Blue)

Team White’s Darcy Tucker, Pavel Kubina and Kyle Wellwood each hit four targets to defeat Team Blue’s Tomas Kaberle, Jason Blake, and Nik Antropov.  Kaberle continued his individual shooting accuracy dominance and defended his NHL All-Star Skills Competition title from last month by hitting four targets on five shots.

POWER PLAY CHALLENGE (Won by Team Blue)

Team Blue won the 3 on 1 event, led by the trio of Ian White, Matt Stajan and Boyd Devereaux who scored three goals. Team Blue goaltender Andrew Raycroft allowed just one goal against Team White.

KING OF THE SHOOT-OUT

(Won by Team Blue / Individual: Ian White (Team Blue)

Team Blue outscored the Team White 2-1 in sudden death. Ian White surpassed Pavel Kubina in the sudden death round to be named the individual winner.

THE EVENT RAISED $110,000 IN PROCEEDS THAT WILL BENEFIT THE LEAFS FUND, AND THE NHLPA GOALS AND DREAM FUND. SINCE ITS INCEPTION, THE LEAF SKILLS EVENT HAS RAISED OVER $2.6 MILLION FOR THE LEAFS FUND AND NHLPA’S GOALS AND DREAMS FUND.
