Waiting on Mats

He now has a fiancé who is part of the decision making process and a 37 year old body trying to tell him what to do. I honestly think the Brett Farve situation in Green Bay is also weighing in on the decision. If he retires I am sure he doesn’t want to go through the same situation finding out a few weeks latter that it was a mistake. But like the Green Bay Packers the Maple Leafs must move on and plan for a future without their marquee player.
So if Mats does not return, who would be the next captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs? There are a number of candidates, not the least of which are two young men of which much will be expected of in the absence of #13. Both Alex Steen and Mat Stajan would make excellent captains of a young team rebuilding for the future. Both understand the pressures of the position and have been around long enough to watch one of the best ever handle the Toronto market and what is expected of a leader in the dressing room.
My gut feeling is that Mats is going to retire and if he plays at all it might be back in Sweden. I do not have a deadline for this information.
