Leafs Acquire Hamilton From Wild
Brian Burke, president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Wednesday that the hockey club has acquired forward Ryan Hamilton from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for forward Robbie Earl.

Hamilton, a 23-year-old Oshawa native, played in 29 games for the Houston Aeros, Minnesota’s American Hockey League affiliate this season registering eight goals and four assists for 12 points with 24 penalty minutes. Last season, the 6-2, 219-pound left-winger played in 72 games and ranked second in Houston goals (20) and points (39). Over the past three seasons, he has played in 163 games for Houston collecting 35 goals, 32 assists and 67 points, along with 98 minutes in penalties.  Minnesota originally signed Hamilton as a free agent on July 5, 2006.

Prior to turning pro, Hamilton played four seasons (2002-06) for the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League. In 2005-06, his final season in Barrie, he led the Colts with 46 goals in 63 games.

Earl played in 36 games this season for the Toronto Marlies collecting 10 points on two goals and eight assists, along with 28 penalty minutes. In nine games with the Leafs in 2007-08, Earl collected one assist. He was originally the Maple Leafs’ fourth choice, selected 187th overall, in the 2004 Entry Draft.
