The Toronto Maple Leafs will open the 2009-10 season by facing Original Six rival, the Montreal Canadiens at Air Canada Centre on Thursday, October 1.
Saturday night games once again dominate the Maple Leafs’ schedule with Toronto playing 23 times on Saturday (15 at home and eight on the road). The Maple Leafs do not have any home games scheduled for Friday and Sunday in the upcoming season.
The busiest months are December and March as the team will play 16 games overall in each month. The busiest home month for Toronto will be March as the team will play nine home games while the busiest road month will be January with nine road games. The Maple Leafs will close out the regular season schedule with road games against the Rangers on April 7 and the Canadiens on April 10. The defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins will visit Air Canada Centre on October 10 and January 9. The Detroit Red Wings will oppose the Maple Leafs at Toronto on Saturday, November 7 in the annual Hockey Hall of Fame Game.
The NHL schedule matrix for 2009-10 will see the Maple Leafs play six games against divisional opponents (24 games in total), four games against each non-divisional conference team (40 games in total), and one game against each of the teams in the Pacific and Central Divisions of the Western Conference. The Maple Leafs will also face Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver once at home and once on the road. Toronto will face all 29 other NHL clubs on the schedule.
The team’s 2009 preseason schedule and full broadcast schedule will be released at a later date.
