MacDonald, Hanson Recalled, Toskala, Mitchell Placed On IR

Brian Burke, president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Tuesday that the hockey club has recalled goaltender Joey MacDonald and forward Christian Hanson from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. The Leafs also announced that forward John Mitchell and goaltender Vesa Toskala have been taken from the active roster and placed on injured reserve.
MacDonald, 29, was originally recalled by the Leafs on October 8 and played in three games, posting a 3.35 goals against average and a .875 save percentage. In six games with the Marlies he has registered a record of 2-4-0, a goals against average of 2.83 and a .892 save percentage.
The 6’0, 197-pound native of Pictou, Nova Scotia was originally signed as free agent by the Leafs on August, 10, 2009.
Hanson, 23, ranks first on the Marlies in scoring and second among all AHL rookies with 18 points (eight goals, 10 assists) in 18 games played. The native of Venetia, Pennsylvania has also earned 15 penalty minutes and registered a plus-four (+4) rating. Last season he played in five games for the Leafs collecting one goal, one assist and two penalty minutes. He played his first NHL game on April 3 in Philadelphia, and scored his first NHL goal April 7 at New Jersey. The Leafs signed the 6’4, 228-pound forward as a free agent on March 31, 2009.
