Alexei Ponikarovsky had himself quite the game on Monday. Not only did he score two goals but he also added a helper on Matt Stajan's goal which gave hime three second period points.

Ponikarovsky now has 11 goals on the season which puts him second on the team just three behind leader Niklas Hagman. Pony also had three hits, 16:28 of ice-time to go along with a plus 2 rating on the night.

Lee Stempniak has been one of the best Leafs of late and on Monday he, Wayne Primeau and Nikolai Kulemin were given the task of playing against dynamic forward Ilya Kovalchuk.

The trio did a superb job and head coach Ron Wilson gave them kudos after the game for their hard work and also being able to score the first goal of the game to jump start the Leafs offence.

After being able to score boatloads of goals on the road, the Leafs were finally able to bring that to Air Canada Centre on Monday.

The win was just the third of the season at the ACC for the Leafs but it should give the team confidence with six of the nine games before December 25th at home. An improved home record will go a long way in the Leafs getting back in the playoff race.

Ron Wilson on the performance of Vesa Toskala:

"Key first was getting huge saves a couple of times from Vesa, early in the game and then in the second period, a couple of big, key saves right after we’d taken the lead. So it was nice to see Vesa back in form."
