No More Morning Skate?
Watch the clip from Leafs Lunch

Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke was on Leafs Lunch - Leafs Nation Edition on Saturday and was asked about the posibility of doing away with the morning skates.

"We are in the process of evaluating it. It never made any sense to me. I never understand why a player has to get up in the morning. As a player it never made sense to me."

Burke brought up the fact that many NBA teams don't have morning shootaround and also the research that has been done on the benefits of not having a morning skate.

"Several NBA teams have gotten away from the morning shootaround to give the players more time to sleep in. We have met the guy who did the protocal for the Vancouver Canucks last year. We haven't adopted it yet and we may not but there is a school of thought that a player is better off getting an extra 90 minutes or two hours of sleep.

"A radical thing, a lot of teams in Europe practice at night because their players work. To me what we do for practice doesn't make sense. Practice at 10 a.m. or 11 a.m. and play at 7. Doesn't make sense. The evolution of this is, practice at 4 p.m. or 5 p.m. and no game day skates."
