The Leafs fell behind 2-0 for the 22nd time this season and after having a few chances to get back in the game, Dan Carcillo's fourth goal of the year in the second ended the Leafs' hopes for a win.

Not known for his goal scoring, Carcillo went around a sliding Luke Schenn and then Tomas Kaberle before putting the puck past Jonas Gustavsson for the highlight reel goal.

Daniel Briere has been hampered by injuries recently but against the Leafs on Wednesday, he was the best player on the ice. Briere opened the scoring in the first and he added his second in the third which was his 500th career NHL point.

If the Flyers have any hope of making the playoffs, they will need Briere to remain red-hot like he is now. Briere has scored in four of his last six games picking up seven points in that span.

Tough to find a Maple Leaf on this night but Rickard Wallin was the best of the lot. Ron Wilson bumped Wallin up to the top line with Phil Kessel and Viktor Stalberg early in the game.

Wallin had 17:25 of ice-time, while also seeing some time on the power play. Although he is still looking for his first goal of the year, Wallin had a few chances against the Flyers but couldn't beat Michael Leighton.

Special teams have been issues with the Leafs all season and on Wednesday that continued. The Flyers scored three of their six goals on the power play as the Leafs found themselves in the penalty box quite often.

Heading into the game the Flyers were the most penalized team in the NHL but the Leafs weren't able to take advantage on their four power play opportunites managing just four shots.

Ron Wilson on whether fatigue was an issue for the Leafs:

"I'm sure they'll say that, but it's no excuse. We had a few guys who didn't compete at the level we need."

Friday January 8 @ Sabres
  7:30 PM ET (Sportsnet, AM640)

Game Notes:
The Maple Leafs head down the QEW to take on the Sabres who have won the last nine meetings.

Ryan Miller has been the difference in the games between the two teams. He has stoned the Leafs all year and they will look to finally solve the netminder.
