The Leafs allowed three second-period goals to the Kings who had a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes. Since Toronto hasn't been able to win a game this season when trailing after two periods, the task was too much to overcome.

Niklas Hagman got the Leafs to within a goal late in the third but Alexander Frolov iced the game with the empy netter.

300 Career NHL games for Leafs defenceman Francois Beauchemin.
19-0 Kings record when leading after two periods.
2 Leafs wins in their last 11 games.
59 Combined hits from the two teams in the game.
2-7-1 Leafs record on Tuesdays.

Kings captain Dustin Brown put on a show for Team USA Olympic general manager Brian Burke and head coach Ron Wilson. Brown will represent the U.S. in Vancouver and he was also named an alternate captain for the Americans.

Brown was a force all night knocking the Leafs off the puck, setting up his teammates and when the Leafs tried to hit him, he bounced off. He finished with three assists, four hits, a plus two rating in 18:48 of action.

Niklas Hagman was the best Leaf by a large margin on Tuesday. The Leafs forward became the first player on the team to reach the 20-goal plateau as he scored two goals on the night. It was the third straight year that he has registered 20 goals.

Hagman has been a streaky scorer this season. After going 11 games without a goal, the Finnish winger has now recorded at least one goal in three of his last five games.

One area where the Leafs came out on top against the Kings was in the face-off circle. It's been a part of the game where the Leafs have been much improved and on Tuesday the Leafs won 57 per cent of the draws.

Matt Stajan won 69 per cent, Jamal Mayers came in at 67 per cent and John Mitchell at 61 per cent.

Ron Wilson on the standout play of Dusitn Brown:

"I pray to God Dustin Brown's this good three weeks from tonight (for Team USA at the Olympics) because he dominated our defence. They were trying to hit him and he was bouncing off them. He was protecting the puck and we couldn't get it away from him and he made some guys look pretty bad."

Friday January 29 @ Devils
  7 PM ET (TSN, AM640)

Game Notes:
The Leafs and Devils play the first of three games over eight days.

The Devils are once again near the top of the Eastern Conference standings. They have one of the best home records in the NHL and are always tough with Martin Brodeur in net.
