Brian Burke, president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Monday that the hockey club has signed free agent forward Brayden Irwin to a two-year entry level contract.  He will be with the Leafs for the remainder of the season and will be available to the media following tomorrow’s morning skate at Air Canada Centre.

Irwin, a 23-year-old Toronto native, recently completed his fourth season with the University of Vermont Catamounts.  In 39 games this past season, the 6-5, 215-pound forward led the Catamounts in goals (15), assists (19), points (34), powerplay goals (7) and penalty minutes (72).  Over four seasons at Vermont, he played 144 games registering 38 goals and 44 assists for 82 points, along with 194 penalty minutes.  In 2006-07 he was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team, as well as to the Hockey East All-Academic Team.  In his first three seasons at Vermont, he was a teammate of current Maple Leafs forward Viktor Stalberg.

Prior to joining Vermont, Irwin played for the Toronto St. Michael’s Buzzers of the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League.
