The Toronto Maple Leafs nominated Mike Komisarek for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, which is ‘awarded to the player that best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy contribution in his community.’

Since joining the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2009, Mike Komisarek has been an active participant in all Leaf charitable outreach initiatives. Mike is dedicated to youth in Toronto, and charities that span across Canada and the rest of the world.

In conjunction with the MLSE Team Up Foundation (TUF), Mike was instrumental in the unveiling of the TUF’s Rink Build program, which was launched in partnership with corporate partner RONA. Mike made a donation of $5,000 to the Team Up Foundation to benefit rink constructions and refurbishments across Toronto.

This season, Mike started Komisarek's Kids Club, with the goal of giving every kid at Camp
Oochigeas the chance to see a live Maple Leafs game in person. Mike purchased seven
gondolas (total cost of $75,000) and brought 350 campers to a Leafs game. Camp Ooch
provides children with cancer a unique opportunity for growth through challenging, fun, enriching and magical experiences. Due to injury, Mike spent entire games with the kids signing autographs, answering questions and cheering on the blue and white.

Mike was the honourary team leader for the Pancreatic Cancer Canada team that ran in the 5K
Your Way walk/run, in support of the Princess Margaret Hospital on Sunday, October 18th in
Toronto. The event was part of the Goodlife Fitness Toronto Marathon. Komisarek donated
$5,000 to Pancreatic Cancer Canada, as well as met with the team after they finished their run.
Komisarek’s mother, Kathy, died after a 10-month battle with pancreatic cancer on November 29, 2005 at the age of 51.

At the Have a Heart dinner benefiting the MLSE Team Up Foundation, Mike was instrumental in rallying his fellow teammates to donate funds to the Team Up Foundation. Approximately
$20,000 was raised, much to do with his efforts.

Mike has shown an affinity to the Canadian Forces and the Hospital for Sick Children. In
December, Mike participated in Operation HOHOHO. "Team HOHOHO" boarded a Toronto
Police Unit Hyke Patrol Boat at their Marine Headquarters en route to Toronto Island Airport.

Upon arrival at the island, the group rendezvoused with Captain Geoff Mackenzie and other
soldiers from the 400 Helicopter Squadron out of CFB Borden who (in lieu of a sled) were flying in two Canadian Military Griffon helicopters. The group took off from the island and proceeded to land on the roof of Sick Kids Hospital. Upon arrival, they participated in the reading of Christmas stories to children and distributed stuffed Carlton bears, Leafs blankets, autographed flags, pictures and mini hockey sets to approximately one hundred kids in attendance. The event was broadcasted live to the three hundred rooms at Sick Kids for the patients who were unable to attend.

Mike contributed $2,200 to the endeavours of Right to Play. He continues to be an athlete
ambassador of the program as well taking part in the annual Right to Play All-Star Match. Right
to Play improves the lives of impoverished children around the world through play.

On January 31st Mike participated as guest instructor at the Leafs Clinic Series. These clinics
give kids the unique opportunity to receive instruction from Toronto Maple Leafs players, coaches and Hockey Development staff during one-day training sessions.

In Toronto, Mike is and remains one of the key participants with MLSE’s charitable events.
Whether serving dinner at the Have a Heart gala event, or skating with disabled children at the
annual Easter Seals Skate, Mike’s leadership on and off the ice makes him a fan favourite.

On the ice, Komisarek played in 34 games for the Maple Leafs this season collecting four assists and 40 penalty minutes. His season was cut short due to season-ending shoulder surgery. In 395 career NHL games, Komisarek has collected 62 points (12 goals, 50 assists) along with 536 penalty minutes.
