Despite a slow start, being outshot badly and generally not playing well, the Leafs pulled to within 3-2 after 40 minutes. That's as close as they would get.

Just 1:05 into the third period, the Leafs turned the puck over at the Flyers' blueline and with DIon Phaneuf caught up ice, Mike Richards set up Scott Hartnell on the 2-on-1. It was the Flyers' second goal on a 2-on-1 in the game and it ended any hopes of a comeback.

-5 Rating for Dion Phaneuf through the first seven games.
14:19 Ice-time for John Mitchell in his first game of the season.
5 Straight wins for the Flyers over the Leafs in Philadelphia.
8 Career goals for Mike Richards in 18 games against the Leafs.
72-39 Shot disparity between the opponents and Leafs in the last two games.

Flyers captain Mike Richards was excellent in Philadelphia's run to the Stanley Cup finals but he had a slow start to this season. He had just three points in the first six games of the season.

Saturday he was the best player on either team. He not only scored the opening goal, he also added two assists and he had a nice hit in the first period on Nikolai Kulemin. The Flyers followed their captain's example as they didn't let up on the Leafs all night.

On a night when many Leafs struggled, Mike Komisarek had probably his best game of the young season.

He made simple passes, was physical in his own zone and he played a key role on the penalty kill. In the first period he had a solid hit on Ville Leino. Komisarek played a season-high 19:11, he had an assist on the Clarke MacArthur goal and he was a plus two, one of just two Leafs to have a plus rating in the game.

The Leafs have struggled offensively in their three straight losses as they have scored just four goals.

The past two games have been particularly troubling as the Blue and White have mustered just 32 shots. If they were getting shots on net then not scoring wouldn't be such a great concern but not being able to generate chances has to be concerning. Of the 20 goals the Leafs have scored, 12 have come from Phil Kessel or MacArthur.

Ron Wilson on the early collapse in the final period:
"To start the third period when we talked about not getting caught up the ice, not giving them easy opportunities and you know be patient, attention to detail and we didn't. So they buried us early in the third period. We had a chance because of a couple of nice goals and great goaltending up until that point. Some nights on the road, you've got to bend and not break but we broke early in the third."

Tuesday October 26 vs. Panthers

Game Notes:
The Maple Leafs return home to face Bryan McCabe and the Panthers at Air Canada Centre.

The Panthers have won three of their last four games as they play the first of three straight against the Northeast Division's Canadian teams.
