Jochen Hecht scored his first goal of the season with less than 14 seconds left, tying the game at 2-2. From there, the Leafs let a point slip away, losing 2-1 in the shootout after blowing a two-goal lead.

At one point Leafs led 2-0 and it was 2-1 after two periods. The home team started to sit back a little in the third, allowing the Sabres back into the contest. When it looked like two points may be in the bag for the Leafs, Hecht snuck one in past Jean-Sebastien Giguere to make it 2-2.

Mikhail Grabovski ended his goalless drought for the 2010-11 season with his (and the game's) first just 17 second from first intermission.

Grabovski's was the "one line producing offence" in this game according to head coach Ron Wilson. It showed on the score sheet where Grabovski and Clarke MacArthur helped Nikolai Kulemin to his fourth of the season in the second period to put the Leafs ahead 2-0 - which looked quite comfortable at the time.

Giguere had a solid game for the Leafs, particularly in the first period when he made 15 saves to help keep his team in front.

The Leafs dominated the second period and Giguere easily turned aside the six shots he faced. However, from the moment Derek Roy struck late in the second to pull the Sabres back within a goal, Leafs took the foot off the gas and were outshot 9-3 in the third period on way to losing 2-1 in the shootout on a killer deke by rookie Tyler Ennis.

Grabovski has looked bright throughout the season, but it took him 13 games to get a well-deserved first goal of 2010-11.

In that time the centreman accumulated six assists and with a two point night against the Sabres, he has moved up to fourth in team scoring with eight points - one more than Tomas Kaberle.

MacArthur's is now up to a team-leading 11 points with his assist.

Ron Wilson offers his thoughts on the game:

"The goal (by Hecht) they scored hit three skates on the way to the net. It's one of those things that happen. I thought we controlled the game pretty well ... I had one line producing offence ... John Mitchell's line did a great job, but we need more contribution from other people. In a game like this when you got a team on the mat, we didn't finish them off when we should have."

Game Notes:
The Leafs are off to Florida for back-to-back games against the Lighting and the Panthers.

Tampa has lost its last two games heading into Saturday night's late encounter against the Sharks, finishing a four-game western road swing which they kicked off with a 3-0 shutout of the Coyotes.
