Percy Excited To Play For Team Gilmour
Past Leafs Who Were Drafted Or Took Part In Prospects Game

Stuart Percy admits, he cheated a bit.

His Mississauga St. Mike’s Majors were in Kingston, playing the Frontenacs.

The 17-year-old defenceman knew the man behind the Fronts’ bench, Doug Gilmour, would soon enough be ladling out Percy’s ice time.

Percy is one of the prospects performing for Team Gilmour at the Wednesday, January 19th Home Hardware Top Prospects Game at Air Canada Centre. That night in Kingston, Percy was trying to catch the opposing coach’s eye.

“I was trying to make a good impression,” Percy said. “I thought if I showed him something good he might be a little more likely to put me in a good situation. Plus, Doug Gilmour was one of my favourite players growing up.”

Percy has been a fan of the game for years.

“I remember watching it years ago and seeing guys like Sam Gagne and John Tavares playing. Last year, watching my teammate Devante Smith-Pelly was great.”

At 17, Percy is in his draft year and while players have been exhaustively coached, the chance to compete against the best in your draft class is different.

“It’s a great gift for prospects because scouts don’t have to spend one night looking at one player who is competing against a bunch of players. This way, they get to compare players they have been following playing against each other."

The 2011 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game will mark the 16th annual showcase of the CHL’s top-40 NHL draft eligible  players. The two-day event also features a skills competition and three-on-three challenge taking place Tuesday January 18.
