Heading into the third period, the Leafs only trailed 1-0 despite being in penalty trouble during the majority of the second period.

After taking a quick 2-1 lead on goals by Phil Kessel and Clarke MacArthur, Patrick Marleau scored his second of the game to tie it. For just the second time this season, a defenceman had the winner for the Leafs when Carl Gunnarsson tipped home the Dion Phaneuf point shot. MacArthur would seal it with an empty-netter.

For the second straight game James Reimer was brilliant between the pipes for the Maple Leafs. He keeps getting better and for the second time in three games he faced over 40 shots.

He was excellent in the second as the Leafs killed off all four penalties including a 5-on-3. In the second period he turned aside 21 shots including a great save on Dany Heatley. Reimer improved his record to 4-1-0 with a .947 save percentage and a 1.92 GAA.

Clarke MacArthur's outstanding season continued on Tuesday. He had numerous chances throughout the night and it was a matter of time before he would get on the scoresheet.

Coming into this season, his career high in points was 35 which he had in 2009-10. With his two goals against the Sharks he now has a career-high 36 points. The 22 assists that he has this season are also a career high and he is on pace for a career high in goals.

Leafs head coach Ron Wilson entered a rare group on Tuesday with the win as it was his 600th career victory. He joined Scotty Bowman, Al Arbour, Dick Irvin, Pat Quinn, Mike Keenan and Bryan Murray in the 600 win-club.

The win was especially nice for Wilson as he had 206 wins with the Sharks before coming to Toronto. His career win total breaks down like this: Anaheim 120; Washington 192; San Jose 206 and Toronto 82.

Ron Wilson on his 600th NHL regular-season win:

"Well, it's pretty special. I mean, obviously, I think only six other guys have done it. You don't see it very often. The best thing is that we managed to find a way to do it here ... It's great...It's a great month because I've got this, the 13-hundreth game and then he's (his late father, Larry) inducted into the American League Hall of Fame at the end of the month. So it's pretty neat."
