In recognition of their long-standing relationship and history with Canada’s Military, the Toronto Maple Leafs have introduced an exclusive line of apparel and merchandise in support of the Canadian Forces. The collection includes Maple Leafs and military themed hats, t-shirts, a hockey jersey and plush toy.

All of the Canadian Forces’ Maple Leafs apparel is sold exclusively inside Air Canada Centre and Real Sports Apparel at Maple Leaf Square with 25 percent of all collection sales benefiting the Military Families Fund.

As part of this collection, 500 limited edition Maple Leafs Challenge Coins, bearing the Maple Leafs insignia and a tableau with the team and Canadian flag over a rocky shore will also be sold at Real Sports Apparel. Challenge Coins have a unique history dating back to World War I and are still widely circulated today to promote morale among troops, often seen as a badge of comradery.

In 2009, Maple Leafs defenceman Luke Schenn created a program called Luke’s Troops in an effort to honour the men and women who serve in the Canadian Military. Since that time at every Maple Leafs home game, a member of the Canadian Forces, who has recently served in or is leaving to serve in Afghanistan is invited to enjoy the game on behalf of Schenn. The program has inspired both a men’s and women’s Luke’s Troops t-shirt that is part of the Canadian Forces’ Maple Leafs collection.

“The members of the Canadian Forces truly appreciate the continuing support initiatives so visibly shown year after year by Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment. Their contributions and efforts go a long way to remind all members and their families that Canadians genuinely care,” said Brigadier-General (Ret’d) David Martin, the Director General of Personnel and Family Support Services of the Canadian Forces.

The Maple Leafs, along with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE), will honour the thousands of men and women who serve Canada at their annual Canadian Forces Appreciation Night on Saturday, February 19 during their game versus the Ottawa Senators.

MLSE will host more than 400 Canadian Forces personnel from CFB Borden, CFB Trenton, HMCS York, HMCS Toronto and Land Force Central Area, many of whom have served in Afghanistan, to watch the game from one of Air Canada Centre’s gondolas plus various seats throughout the arena. In addition, Maple Leafs season seat holders have generously donated hundreds of tickets for Canadian troops.
