Ryan Tesink has s no shortage of idols.
The hard-skating Saint John Sea Dog is often compared to Theo Fleury but Tesink counts himself an admirer of Jonathan Toews.
“I try to play the kind of two-way game he plays,” Tesink said. “He’s a great leader and he has a lot of heart. He’s a great Canadian hockey player. A Canadian hockey player has real character he never quits; he leads by example and plays through adversity.”
The competitiveness, Tesink, is organic.
“I have always been really competitive, even for fun. I always want to win.
“I have thrown bats in baseball, thrown gloves, probably cried. I just hated to lose growing up.”
Tesink said the things that matters most can’t be measured with a wall chart.
“My skating is my strongest point. Obviously my size is an issue but I make up for it in heart and in effort. I try not to lose any battles on the ice. I just try to be the best player on the ice every shift and do the best I can.” |
