Mark McNeill is a product of the Western Hockey League.
He is hard-working and stoic. That is particularly what has enamored the scouts.
The Edmonton native was a point-a-game player for Prince Albert this season but hockey officials are said to covet his combination of strength and hockey sense. McNeill played the point on the first power play and got stronger with every stride toward the crease. The Hockey News recently compared him to Anaheim strongman Bobby Ryan and leading up to the draft combine, McNeill spent three hours a day in the gym.
It all comes back to the bus.
“Life on the bus, you spend a lot of time with your teammates and there is a lot of bonding that goes on,” he said.
“Some things I am excited about are my versatility and my ability to stay strong on the puck but I am never satisfied. I want to always be raising the bar with my game.”
